The year ahead
In 2026, AIGHD will double down on its goal of uniting researchers from diverse disciplines who strive for global health equity and supporting them to achieve lasting impact.
Realising this requires a streamlined and sustainable operational setup. AIGHD therefore intends to finalise its "Moving Closer" project, a joint effort with one of our founding partners, the Amsterdam UMC, to stabilise AIGHD's finances for long-term growth.
Transferring AIGHD's operations to the Amsterdam UMC will help safeguard our core offerings and values. These include running the fellows programme, facilitating interdisciplinary research and projects in sustainable partnerships, and providing PhD development and support.
Despite the resources required to facilitate a smooth move, AIGHD will continue to expertly manage the research projects we are coordinating, including launching the latest ones to receive funding.
Fostering a new generation of scientists
AIGHD will maintain its capacity to onboard new PhDs and researchers to support our projects throughout this period. Our PhD fellow network will strengthen its activities, intending to foster a new generation of scientists to become leaders in their field. AIGHD will endeavour to expand our cross-disciplinary work and further develop our broad and substantial expertise.
We will continue our cooperation with other institutions in the Netherlands and Europe to ensure global health remains on the policy and research agenda. AIGHD will also invest in long-lasting, sustainable partnerships in both research and education, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
As AIGHD starts a new chapter, we remain committed to advancing global health equity through research, education, and advocacy, ensuring that our work continues to reflect the values and vision that have defined the institute since its inception – in 2026 and many more years beyond.
