Dutch Global Health Hub
Location: Utrecht, Netherlands
Date: 18 October 2024
AIGHD is an active member of the Dutch Global Health Hub, launched in September 2023 with twenty other organizations to help improve public health worldwide.
The Hub has three Communities of Practice (COP). For the second COP focused on pandemic preparedness, the AMR-Global public-private partnership, which AIGHD co-founded, organized a meeting to discuss the Netherlands' implementation of the UN Declaration on antimicrobial resistance in September 2024. After several presentations, attendees brainstormed and developed recommendations.
Dr. Kristin Kremer (KNCV TB Plus) and Anna Le Clerq from the Dutch branch of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA) hosted the Communities of Practice session. Prof. Constance Schultsz (AIGHD), Senior Ministerial Advisors Rosalien Stroot (Ministry of Health) and Sarah Spronk (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Martijn van Gerven (Access to Medicine Foundation), and Remko van Leeuwen (SurvivX) shared their perspectives on and contributions to the UN's 2024 High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance.
The high-level session at the World Health Summit (co-organised by ISGlobal and Charité) focused on aligning the EU Global Health Strategy with national and regional agendas, strengthening EU-Africa collaboration, and leveraging research to inform evidence-based policy. Speakers highlighted the importance of trust-building, shared priorities, and the role of research in reducing barriers to cooperation.

Location: Berlin, Germany
Date: 14 October 2024
AIGHD continues to be an active member of the European Global Health Research Institutes Network – a growing network of research institutions committed to advancing global health through research, policy dialogue, and equitable partnerships – and hosted its secretariat in 2024.
A key milestone in 2024 was the high-level session EGHRIN hosted with the German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) at the World Health Summit titled “Bridging Policy and Research: Translating the EU Global Health Strategy into Action". EGHRIN also convened two public online seminars that addressed timely and structural global health challenges:
- Decolonising Global Health Curricula – exploring approaches to embed equity, reflexivity, and diversity in global health education.
- Global Health Side Effects of EU Pharmaceutical Reform, jointly organised with Law for Health and Life at the Amsterdam Law School.
In 2024, the network published three papers:
- “Balancing Equity and Global Health Security: Towards a Fair and Effective Pandemic Agreement” (International Journal of Public Health)
- “The EU Global Health Strategy: From Policy to Implementation” (Global Health Research and Policy)
- “The New EU Global Health Strategy and Research: From Policy to Action” (Tropical Medicine and International Health)
Lastly, EGHRIN expanded its membership to include:
- Universidade Nova de Lisboa
- Universidade do Porto
- Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD).
